Today, October 10th, is a remarkable day, and we're eagerly anticipating its official recognition in the city of Richmond… ✊🏾 Over 50 years ago, in October, the country witnessed the birth of the first Black brewery, Peoples Brewing Co., led by visionary Ted Mack. To honor this significant milestone and raise awareness about the invaluable contributions of Black brewers, the National Black Brewers Association (@__nb2a) have worked with local legislatures in respective cities and states to establish this day in October as Black Brewers Day. With only 1% of all breweries being Black-owned, and an even smaller percentage due to some operating as contract breweries, the urgency to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of Black individuals in this industry has never been clearer. Here’s what @precariousbeerproject had to say about this collaboration. 💙🫐🔵 A collaboration between our friends at Capsoul Brewing Collective to celebrate inclusivity and education in the ever growing craft beer community, as well as support the Triangle Block Market, which focuses on promoting BIPOC owned businesses, artists, and entrepreneurs. Together we created a delectable Breakfast Sour with Blueberry, Black Currant, Vietnamese Cinnamon, Vanilla, Maple, and a touch of Lactose. The result is a luxurious sour ale with layers of complexity that tastes like a stack of French Toast covered in blueberry and maple syrup. It's the full drip!

Here’s to the final day of #VACraftBeerMonth 🍻 This past Friday, we were honored to be part of an exciting event at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (@virginiahistory) - 'Brewing in the Black Community: African Origins to Craft’s Future.' We'd like to extend special thanks to @beeristoric, @ardentcraftales, and the panelists: @audiophilegirl, @alchemicalherbivore, @rvabeerguy, @theresamccu, and, of course, our Founder and President, @uncapeverything. All moderated by @gqhistoire, museum curator for @nationalparkservice. We wish we could share all of the rich history and stories of enslaved Africans engaged in brewing, hop cultivation, distillation, and the cultural connections to beer’s origin. But we promise that we’ve learned, we have a responsibility to put into practice. ✊🏾⚡️🌏 Single Connection CRAFT: Seeking crushability, we created Single Connection—a Hazy Pale Ale hopped with Idaho-7, HBC-586, and Citra hops. Aromatics of robust orange zest that taste like the juice of a tangerine and orange in a semi-dry beer. CULTURE: After several conversations and a sort history lesson over the past few months, we were inspired to name this Single Connection as we recognize the connections and enduring presence of Black influence woven throughout history. And through historians like @alchemicalherbivore, @audiophilegirl, @theresamccu, and @rvabeerguy, we explored figures like Patsy Young and Uncle Nearest —enslaved Africans who served as brewers and distillers. Even in the face of enslavement, they used their skills, adding a layer of validation to their legacy. History, in a way gives validation. Beer isn’t new to us. We hope to continue to shed light on these connections and merge the beauty of the craft with the culture. ABV: 5.5% Join us today, from 12p to 4p, for the Can Release Party of Single Connection.
